Last week, the Art Conservation program hosted Chris Stavroudis as the 2019 Margaret A. Light Visiting Scholar in Art Conservation. Mr. Stavroudis demonstrated a variety of techniques using his Modular Cleaning Program. The Modular Cleaning Program (MCP) is a systematic approach he developed to assist with cleaning artworks. The MCP consists of a series of concentrated stock solutions and a computer database which may be adapted for the creation of liquid, emulsified and gelled cleaning agents.

Dr. Allison Morehead moderated a discussion with Dr. Leslie Topp last year and it's now available as a podcast from the CFRC Podcast network!

Congratulations to Sarah Alford, Ph.D., 2018 and Lisa Binkley, Ph.D., 2016!

Ms. Alford has recently accepted a position as Assistant Professor in Craft History and Theory in the School of Critical and Creative Studies at the Alberta University of the Arts (formerly the Alberta College of Art and Design). Ms. Binkley has just accepted a tenure-stream position in the history of the North American continent in the Department of History at Dalhousie University.

On Friday March 29th, students in Dr. Allison Morehead's class, ARTH 324: French Art and Its Reception, 1855–1912, had a special tour of the current exhibition at the , with Dr. Caroline Shields, curator of .

Congratulations to Professor Una D'Elia, recent recipient of the W.J. Barnes Teaching Award for her outstanding teaching of course ARTH 120!  The Barnes is student nominated and student selected. It is presented annually "to a deserving member of the Faculty of Arts and Science who has made a significant contribution to teaching." 

This term, , visited Professor Una D'Elia's graduate seminar ARTH 842, Studies in Italian Renaissance Art.

Congratulations to Dr. Sarah Alford, whose thesis, "Art Botany in Nineteenth-Century Design Reform, 1830–1865" (supervised by Professor Emerita Dr. Janice Helland) has been named Humanities Outstanding Thesis by the Fellowship Committee of the School of Graduate Studies in the 2018-2019 Governor General’s Academic Gold Medals competition.
