International Math Competition
Competition Overview
The International Math Competition (IMC) celebrates and cultivates mathematical excellence by providing students in grades 3–8 with the opportunity to demonstrate their mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and computational skills. More than a traditional assessment, IMC is designed to challenge students and encouraging them to stretch their thinking and discover the full extent of their God-given abilities.
Unlike classroom tests that measure mastery of a specific curriculum, IMC recognizes mathematical aptitude and advanced thinking. Each assessment includes a few questions that extend beyond core grade-level standards, providing students who have learned beyond the minimum grade-level expectations with the opportunity to demonstrate deeper mathematical understanding. Students are never penalized for not knowing this advanced content, as advancement is based on the top-performing approximately 30% of participants, rather than a percentage score. This approach recognizes that instructional pacing and enrichment opportunities vary from school to school while celebrating students who excel in mathematical thinking.
The competition features two testing categories:
- Computation – Accuracy and fluency in applying mathematical concepts and procedures.
Reasoning – Critical thinking and problem-solving through mathematical analysis and application.
All questions are based on the appropriate for each grade level, with select questions designed to challenge students beyond the minimum standards. Because IMC is intended to measure mathematical reasoning and potential, official practice tests are not provided.
Competition Details
The International Math Competition is conducted entirely online at each participating ACSI member school. Schools are provided with a testing window for each level and may administer the assessment at any time during that window. Testing may take place over multiple days, provided all testing is completed within the designated testing window.
Students in grades 3–8 may register for Computation, Reasoning, or both. Schools may register an unlimited number of students for Level 1. Students who place in the top 30% of participants in each testing category advance to the next level. Levels 2 and 3 are invitation only.
Level 1: February 1–5, 2027; $20 per student, per testing category
Level 2 (invitation only): February 17–24, 2027; $30 per student, per testing category
Level 3 (invitation only): March 8–12, 2027; $50 per student, per testing category
Additional Details:
Open exclusively to ACSI member schools (U.S., international, and global national schools).
All assessments are administered digitally at each participating school.
Registration requires each student's name, grade level, and selected testing category (Computation, Reasoning, or both).

Schools may administer the competition at any time during the testing window and may choose to spread testing across multiple days.
